Day 55

Well, it's safe to say that the Italians still have not fully grasped the idea of wifi. After hardly having enough internet to message the parents for nearly 2 weeks, we are now in Switzerland, and thankfully, they have free wifi here!

Over the past couple of days the weather has made a turn for the worst, but rain won't stop us exploring! We've been so lucky with the weather so far, and we worked out that overall we have only had about 6 days of rain.

Since my last post, we have travelled through Italy and half of Switzerland, and we are currently near Zurich after visiting Luzern yesterday, and the famous Lake Maggiore and Lake Como.

After Nice we travelled an 8 hour route round the windy coastal roads to Cinque Terre. On the way we passed Monaco, which was full of yachts (as expected), and a beautiful town called Villefranche-sur-mer that I would recommend to anybody looking for a Southern France holiday, as even though we didn't stop, it looked incredible.

Our destination in Italy was the region of La Spezia, home of Cinque Terre - 5 small picturesque seaside villages with beautiful pastel coloured houses. The 5 villages are Monterosso, Corniglia, Vernazza, Manarola and Riomaggiore.

On the first day we travelled by train from Levanto; where we were parked, to the furthest village, Riomaggiore.

Due to the small nature of the roads surrounding Cinque Terre it would have been impossible to drive the camper anywhere near the villages.

The next day we returned to Cinque Terre, and visited the last 3 villages. We spent most of the day in Corniglia down by the sea where we went swimming and snorkelling, but later in the day we caught the train to Vernazza.

After our wonderful time in Cinque Terre we decided to head down south a little to see a bit more of Italy. We stopped in Pisa for a night, which we thought was horrendously touristy, and pretty average. Even the leaning tower wasn't that wonky!

Thankfully, Florence; our next stop, provided us with a lot more to see! We explored the rustic looking city for most of the day, and admired the architecture.

After Florence, we made a long drive towards the north of Italy, and Lake Como. When we arrived it was cloudy but still very impressive and beautiful, easy to see why George Clooney has a house on the waters edge!

Yesterday, after Lake Como and Lake Maggiore, we visited Luzern, which has to be one of my favourite cities so far, despite giving me horrendous blisters. It is surrounded by mountains and right next to a lake - Lake Luzern.

Much of the town is typical Swiss architecture, and this made it look very quaint. The Swiss seem to love flowers too, and one of the big wooden bridges in the town was covered in them, which looked so lovely.

We are halfway through the trip now, but I can't imagine life when I get back. Life in the camper seems so normal now!
