50 Shades of Grey to Wear

Anybody who knows me knows that I tend to steer clear of colour, and this winter has been no different. But, rather than my usual black and white looks, this A/W I have been really drawn to grey. I love to layer up when I wear grey and try and include lots of different shades in one outfit, usually preferring a dark grey bottom half and lighter top half. Whereas layering shades of black can make you look rather chunky due to the fact it's difficult to tell where one garment starts and one garment stops, grey layers allow you to keep an on trend slightly different take on the monochrome look, and also gives your outfit definition as you can differentiate between each garment owing to each slightly different tones of grey.

Here is some "greyspiration" I've found recently:

The second picture shows some dreamy grey layering. Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney and Michael Kors all featured soft monochrome layering such as this for their A/W14 collections. Grey, Beige and Mocha were often the colours of choice for these looks.

The ideal texture of fabric to create this look is usually found in knitwear, and although A/W is coming to end in terms of fashion, it's certainly still cold enough in the UK to warrant some new oversized and snuggly pieces that are ideal for layering. Some great items can still be found both online and on the highstreet to create this sort of look. One of my favourite brands at the moment that makes some gorgeous, very on-trend pieces that are great for layering is House of Sunny. Here are some of their items that also hit the grey trend on the head too.

If you're really on a budget though, HoS might still be a little out of your price range. However, this is where Zara comes in to save the day. Zara has been a firm favourite of mine this season, whether it has been the amazing wrap coats that mimic the Utopia and Desert coats by House of Sunny, or the bloggers favourite knitted two piece as worn by Idressmyselff they seem to be more suited to my tastes this season than any other high street store (Topshop, take note and please stop bringing out more horrible flannel shirts and parkas. We want soft knits and oversized coats)

Much of my daily inspiration simply comes from instagram, and recently I have found some girls that I have major style envy over. These girls pull of the grey layering trend perfectly and always have great outfits.  Check out their accounts at @lissyroddyy and @amyfuschia.

I'm really enjoying the current trends of knitwear; specifically two pieces and turtlenecks, tailored trousers, oversized coats, trainers and tote bags. Seeing as it's still so bloody cold, it definitely makes sense that us girls keep layering up, especially as it looks so damn good.
